In this key role, the CRNP will be an integral member of the patient care delivery team central to the unit-based multi-disciplinary team in leading quality and evidence-based care initiatives that will result in achieving optimal patient outcomes and improved patient satisfaction. The CRNP extends and expands the role of physicians, enhances continuity of quality patient care and amplifies communication among all professional care givers, the patient and his/her family members.
The NP/PA will have primary responsibility of the ongoing care of postoperative open heart surgery. Other responsibilities would include: oversight of surgical telemetry patient and bedside rounds. Responsible for admissions and consultation as the need arises.
The NP /PA must be able to function in an autonomous environment and perform invasive procedures such as central line, arterial line, chest tubes and IABP insertion and removal. General postoperative care would also include ventilator support / management, adjustments in medication infusions (e.g. inotropes, anti-arrhythmics, insulin, heparin, etc.) and recognition of problems related to open heart surgery patients (e.g. low cardiac output). Attending level supervision is constantly available so that the NP/PA has a resource for guidance and exchange of ideas for important decision-making.
NURSE PRACTITIONER Qualifications/Experience:
*Graduate of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, licensed by the PA State Board of Nurse Examiners as a Certified Adult Acute Care Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP)

Basic Qualifications
CRNP:
- The successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program is required
- BSN, MSN is preferred

PA:
- A graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) is required
- BS or MS candidate is preferred
- Experience as a physician assistant and/or experience in a clinical setting is preferred
- A current state PA license, certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required
