PAC
The PCNP PAC is a Political Action Committee. This is a separate committee which exists to receive contributions from those supporting nurse practitioners and disburse those contributions to politicians, specifically to members of the PA General Assembly. We are not a federal PAC, so we can only give on the state level. By law we can only accept personal checks. Corporate contributions are prohibited. This money is kept in a separate account and reports must be filed several times a year with the state.

There is an old political adage that "In politics, if you don't give to your friends, you won't have any." Individual Senators and Representatives, as well as the Democratic and Republican caucuses and leadership, raise money for elections. Our lobbyist receives many invitations from legislators and staff asking her to attend their events, which are often $500 to $1000 a ticket. We know this is the part of politics that most people find distasteful, but it is essential. Most importantly, we need your financial support to help get our lobbyist in the room to put forth the nurse practitioner's agenda, promote the role of nurse practitioners and the contribution we provide to health care in Pennsylvania.

Political giving is one mark of a politically sophisticated interest group, which is what we want to be. While we are never going to match the financial resources of the PA Medical Society or other specialty medical associations, we can make important contributions. Our lobbyist regularly attends fundraisers hosted by the four legislative caucuses, House and Senate Republicans and Democrats, which usually cost $500 a ticket. Each caucus usually has at least two events each year. Next on the list of priorities is attending the fundraisers of leadership in the four caucuses. Those events can run from $500 to $1,000 each. Next are committee chairs, like the Chairman of the House Professional Licensure Committee or the Senate Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee. Generally they will run $300 to $500 a ticket. Then we get down to particular friends or champions of NPs' interests, such as Senator Pat Vance or Senator Jane Earll. While we are never going to be known as big givers, it is important for PCNP's lobbyist to be able to attend these events, which often provide valuable opportunities to talk with individual members or key staff.

Historically, we have had very little money to use, only raising about $4000 per year. Just imagine what we could do if every one of the 5800 NPs in the state gave just $10. We would have over $50,000 a year!!

Please give now and give as generously as you can. Checks made out to PCNP PAC should be sent to:

P.O. Box 545

(Checks must be written to PCNP PAC (not just PCNP) and must be from an individual, not a group or organization)
