Hello! I just started my FNP program at Duquesne University. I am just getting a head start looking around for possible preceptors in the Pittsburgh area. I will be starting <g class="gr_ gr_253 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling" id="253" data-gr-id="253">clinicals</g> January 2020 and I will be doing family practice/urgent care/internal medicine rotation. I know I am searching really early, but I understand that it's better to start early to be able to get contracts. I currently work at Shadyside Hospital in the MSICU. I will be attending meetings when they are listed for the PA coalition of NPs. I can't wait to be able to meet everyone and be able to learn from current NPs and future NPs.

My e-mail is: cookvf@upmc.edu

Its never too early to start looking!! I was in duq program and had to withdraw after not being able to obtain a pediatrics preceptor (contacted >150 offices near and far). My advice is to secure that one first!(well at the same time as your first rotation). Its competetive with all of the schools around the Pittsburgh area (broaden your search). The school I am currently in requires us to be licensed in another state as well. (which helps!

Good luck

Hello,

I think no matter what school you go to the search will be tedious. I work with nurses who are at Carlow and Edinborough and they also had problems. As you said, it's never too early to start looking. If you happen to have any NPs who are accepting any students starting at the end of February/beginning of March in 2020, feel free to let me know. I am looking for a community-based clinic for physical assessment and searching now for the OB/GYN preceptor for the summer of 2020.

Veronica C.
