Western PA State Senator Received American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) 2018 State Award for Nurse Practitioner Advocate
August 29, 2018 – Joyce Knestrick, AANP President, and Donald Bucher, AANP Pennsylvania State Representative presented Senator Camera Bartolotta with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Advocate State Award for Excellence this month. The award is given annually to an individual in each state who has made a significant contribution toward increasing awareness and acceptance of nurse practitioners. Nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner advocates, recipients of the prestigious American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) 2018 State Award for Excellence, were honored at an awards ceremony and reception held during the AANP 2018 National Conference this summer in Denver, CO. In 1993, the State Award for Nurse Practitioner Advocate was added to recognize the efforts of individuals who have made a significant contribution toward increasing awareness and recognition of NPs.
Senator Camera Bartolotta has been a champion in the fight to improve patient access to care by removing barriers for nurse practitioners to practice in the state of Pennsylvania. She has introduced and advocated for policies that would remove these barriers to and improve access to health care. Bartolotta’s legislation, Senate Bill 25, passed the Senate by a vote of 39-to-10.
“Senator Bartolotta recognizes that patients must come first in Pennsylvania and we are grateful for her sponsorship and leadership. Her bipartisan legislation for modernization of Pennsylvania nursing law will improve health care by increasing patient access and lowering healthcare costs. This honor is well deserved,” said Adele Caruso, DNP, CRNP, President of the Pennsylvania Coalition of Nurse Practitioners.
“Pennsylvania is fortunate to have a high number of qualified, experienced nurse practitioners who are fully capable of providing care in underserved areas,” Bartolotta said.
The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) is the largest professional membership organization for nurse practitioners (NPs) of all specialties. It represents the interests of more than 248,000 NPs practicing in the U. S. today, providing a unified networking platform and advocating for their role as providers of high-quality, cost-effective, comprehensive, patient-centered and personalized health care. The organization provides legislative leadership at the local, state and national levels, advancing health policy; promoting excellence in practice, education and research; and establishing standards that best serve NP patients and other health care consumers.
