Dear Colleagues,

I want to share the latest update with you to ensure you are well informed and apprised of the efforts regarding our goal to achieve full practice authority for nurse practitioners in the Commonwealth by PCNP Leadership, Long & Nyquist, and Ceisler Media. I would also like to share a report outlining the work and accomplishments of the PCNP leadership during this past year. We are very proud of our organization and you should be too!

Our lobbyists, Mike and Amy Long, and prime sponsor Rep.Jessie Topper met with Speaker Mike Turzai in late August as planned. At this meeting, Speaker Turzai acknowledged his prior discussions, but expressed that he would not let our bill out of committee for a vote. He did offer Rep. Bryan Cutler, as a representative who would work with PCNP to “formulate a strategy” for Full Practice Authority in the 2019 session. Rep. Topper spoke with Rep. Cutler and he confirmed that Rep. Cutler is receptive to working with PCNP to achieve our goal. We have a clear and strong plan. I am scheduled to meet with Rep. Cutler the second week in October and will give you an update after that meeting.

As stated previously, I am certain that PENNSYLVANIA IS READY FOR FULL PRACTICE AUTHORITY!  Patients are ready for more access to quality healthcare.  Nurse practitioners are ready to practice to the full extent of their education and training, with a seamless transition to practice.  Health systems and provider practices are ready to reduce the administrative burden of collaborate agreements. Communities aim to retain NP providers within the Commonwealth.

Please take some time to view the attached slide presentation. Consider reviewing it at your upcoming regional meetings and please consider attending our annual membership meeting which is held each year at our PCNP conference.

                      View the presentation here.

Thank you for your faithful support and tireless efforts towards our common goal of achieving FULL PRACTICE AUTHORITY in Pennsylvania.

Warm regards,

Adele M. Caruso, DNP, CRNP
