2018: A Year in Review
2018 was a busy and successful year for PCNP! Between rallying for full practice authority, introducing a new educational opportunity for students and recently graduated NPs, and keeping up with educating and communicating with our members. Read about some of the great highlights from the past year, and we look forward to continuing out growth in 2019.
Informational Meeting Regarding Collaborative Agreements
On Jan. 24, 2018, PCNP participated in an informational meeting/round table discussion with the Pennsylvania House Professional Licensure Committee (HPLC). The meeting allowed PCNPto provide information and insight regarding the history and functionality of nurse practitioner collaborative agreements (CA) to the HPLC committee members.After the meeting, Chairmain Mark Mustio reached out to PCNP with additional questions and PCNP promptly formulated written responses.
AARP set up an easy-to-use phone line for PCNP members and their supporters to use to easily contact their legislators.The phone line is still open! Contacting your legislator has never been easier. PCNP Student Symposium
The 2018 Student Symposium was held March 24, 2018, at the Penn Stater in State College, PA. Students and new graduates learned the essentials tool to tackle the difficulty of transitioning into practice. Topics covered were negotiating contracts, obtaining licenses, and collaborating to develop competency. Are you a student or new grad who would like to attend in 2019? Lobby Day 2018 was held on April 17 in Harrisburg, PA.Nurse practitioners, students, and supporters gathered to rally at the Capitol in support of full practice authority. Constituents met with their legislators to provide them with information on HB100 and SB25 and the benefits of full practice authority. Over 100 nurses and their supporters rallied on the Capitol steps to advocate for better access to care for residents and show their support. Make plans to attend Lobby Day 2019 on April 9! Hiring of Director of Policy and Government Affairs
In the beginning of the year, the Board Operations Committee interviewed candidates for a position PCNP felt was much needed to help shape legislation that potentially impacts nurse practitioners.Maria Battista, JD, EdD was hired to fill this role. Maria reviews and researches pending legislation weekly, and assembles such items of importance into one or two documents with her comments and recommendations for discussion. Maria and the Committee meet weekly to determine which items PCNP needs to monitor and comment on, items that require PCNP member expertise and assistance to prepare comments, and which items members need to be aware of i.e. potential meetings they want to attend or for informational purposes only.

PCNP Membership Diligent with Legislators
PCNP did not take a summer break from lobbying.Members continued to contact their legislators and let them know how important HB100 is to them, and how imperative it was for the bill to pass. Thank you to all of our members who contacted their legislator! Keep it up!
PCNP Board of Directors - Hard at Work in the Summer for Members!
The PCNP Board of Directors meets four times a year to help elevate and shape PCNP.At meetings, board members and regional representatives give updates and reports on regional and committee work. The board also works on strategic planning and setting PCNP up for success in the future.

Despite the hard work of PCNP Leadership, PCNP members, the PCNP lobbying team and their supporters, HB100 was unfortunately not brought forward for a vote. We know that PENNSYLVANIA IS READY FOR FULL PRACTICE AUTHORITY.Patients are ready for more access to quality healthcare. Nurse practitioners are ready to practice to the full extent of their education and training, with a seamless transition to practice. Health systems and providers are ready to reduce the administrative burden of collaborate agreements. Thank you for your faithful support and tireless efforts towards our common goal of achieving full practice authority in Pennsylvania.
PSNA and PCNP Townhall
PCNP and PSNA held a Townhall Meeting on Sept. 6 at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA.The Townhall was an informative meeting where topics such as HB100/SB25, Nurse Practitioner Full Practice Authority and other professional nursing-related legislation was discussed.
PCNP Lobbyist Strategic Planning Meeting
PCNP President Adele Caruso, DNP, CRNP and lobbying team held a strategic meeting with Rep. Brian Cutler and Rep. Jesse Topper to discuss and action plan for the passage of SB25 and HB100.Adele stressed the importance of the bills to Pennsylvania and why Pennsylvania is ready for full practice authority!
PCNP Annual Conference - Advocate, Educate, Collaborate
At the PCNP 16th Annual Conference, nurse practitioners from across the commonwealth advocated, educated, and collaborated at the Kalahari Resort and Convention Center in Pocono Manor, PA. Attendees networked with fellow NPs while attending educational workshops and sessions. It was an excellent event for NPs to receive necessary ongoing education while learning about the latest going on with the organization and in the commonwealth. Save the date for PCNP's 17th Annual Conference Oct. 3-5, 2019 at the Westin Convention Center in Pittsburgh, PA.

We are On the Move for a New Legislative Session 2019-2021
With HB100 not coming to a vote in 2018, the bills have to be reintroduced in the 2019 session.Keep contacting your legislators to let them know how much SB25/HB100 mean to you! PENNSYLVANIA IS READY FOR FULL PRACTICE AUTHORITY.Our lobbyists, Mike and Amy, and prime sponsors Rep. Jesse Topper and Sen. Camera Bartolotta are ready! We also expect the assistance of Rep. Bryan Cutler, newly elected as majority leader, as a facilitator. Please reach out to your respective legislators and appeal to them to make our legislation a PRIORITY.
